Childhood

Childhood

My childhood, though filled with joyful days, was also marked by moments of profound sorrow. One morning, I awoke to find our home filled with people dressed in black. Aunts scurried between the kitchen and living room, while uncles wept, their faces hidden in their hands. I sat in my father’s arms, oblivious to the impact my sister’s death would have on my life.

These sorrowful days, when my mother would sit in a corner, silently weeping for her lost daughter, shielding me from the depths of her grief, became the inspiration for this collection.

Driven by these fractured and fragmented emotions, I chose the technique of collage. By patching together photographs and thread, and incorporating acrylic paint, I aimed to piece these feelings together, understand them, and ultimately move beyond them.

Each artwork in this collection measures 40 x 28 cm.
